Heather + Stephen | Riverside Event Venue | Huntsville, AL

Stephen and Heather met on a blind date. Even better? This blind date was to go axe throwing! Since then they’ve bonded over serving at their church spending time with the youth group kids, hiking, and playing tennis.

Their wedding was at a newer venue right outside of Huntsville, Riverside Event Venue across the river from Ditto Landing. This was my first time shooting at Riverside, and I am in LOVE! So. Much. Light.

We had a lot of fun exploring the venue, the bridge next to it, and checking out the beautiful view of the river.

We arrived at Riverside Event Venue around 1:00pm on Heather and Stephen’s wedding day. It was warm, bright, and sunny - not a cloud in the sky. When we arrived, Heather was in the bride’s room getting ready with her bridesmaids and Stephen and the groomsmen were about to arrive shortly after.

While Heather and the bridesmaids were getting ready, one abnormal thing stood out to me: Heather was completely ready, and was now helping her bridesmaids with their hair and makeup. I’ve never seen a bride doing others’ hair and makeup on her wedding day, but 1) it looked like she was having fun doing it and 2) this moment stuck with me because I thought it spoke a lot about Heather’s heart and friendship. I can immediately tell that she is one to serve, putting others needs before her own not just at that moment, but throughout the day. Throughout HER day she still seemed so focused on others. I’ve been blessed to work with some of the sweetest brides, and Heather is definitely one of those.

Once everyone was ready, we had their first look inside the venue. With these big beautiful windows and all the natural light, this was a great spot for their first look, and a moment alone to read letters they had written to one another.

We did their couples portraits in what shade we could find, including my favorite spot: under the bridge. I love the unique element this adds, plus the vines are so pretty!

Heather loved the look the bridge offered, so the wedding party met us there as well.

Another piece of Heather and Stephen’s wedding I loved? The FLOWERS! This was my first time meeting and working with the girls at Bella Petali, and let me tell you - they did not disappoint! We were blown away by these dark, contrasting flowers and the organic shape. Heather wanted whimsical florals, and she certainly got them. Check out this beautiful work, and these elegant invitations by Southern Printing:

The ceremony was right at sunset, by the river. The mountain views beyond the river were a perfect backdrop! The ceremony was about 15 minutes long, and then Stephen and Heather dismissed all of their guests, row by row, greeting and thanking each individual guest as they exited to the reception.

Heather and Stephen: You chose a beautiful venue and some amazing vendors, and along with your family and friends, the day was so smooth and perfect! We are so glad you chose to have us there as well. Congratulations!!

Rachel + John’s Wedding| Creekside Plantation | Mooresville, AL

Okay y’all, it has been a long while since I’ve made a blog post, but I’m finally gearing back up. I have so many sessions that are long over due, and I hope to retroactively post some blog stories on those too!

First let me say, congratulations to the new Dr. and Mrs. Wright! What a sweet, happy couple to work with. They are so laid back and went with the flow, loving every minute of their big day together.

Their wedding venue was one of my favorites - Creekside Plantation in Mooresville, AL, about 20 minutes outside Huntsville. This venue is a historic plantation style home on the owner’s beautifully kept landscaped land. There’s a river and fields and a vineyard and horses and flowers and giant trees and white fences and a big fountain outside their chandelier-lit pavilion - just all the things you could ever dream for an outdoor wedding.

When we arrived, Rachel was with her bridesmaids getting hair and makeup by Liz Kinney and Detra Smith, and the groom and groomsmen were starting to arrive to the adorable little groom’s quarters.

When I saw this beautiful chandelier and fireplace inside the house, I knew we needed some pictures of Rachel getting ready here. Particularly some pictures highlighting her Stella York dress.

At every wedding we attend, I always ALWAYS have a favorite moment that sticks out in my mind.

Just a particular moment that I found especially unique, sweet, or emotional. For Rachel and John’s wedding, it was their 1st Look. During 1st looks, we try to give the couple as much space as we can so that it’s still an intimate moment between just the 2 of them. We stayed behind some bushes (on my handy ladder!), and while every 1st Look is unique, I just thought it was SO sweet that Rachel and John immediately started chatting with each other, and hugging, and holding hands, and talking some more. They were so focused on each other; it’s like the rest of the world didn’t exist for them, and you could tell that Rachel had been waiting for HOURS to talk to her best friend and tell him about the morning’s happenings. Of course we were far enough away to not hear the conversation, but as I watched, I saw John listening and responding so sweetly. They talked for a while before we resumed pictures, and I thought it was so sweet that they had so much to say, all while hugging and laughing and touching. They were so loving that my husband (who was shooting with me!) and I looked at each other and said, “Well, couples portraits are done with the first look!” because they were posing themselves already so naturally!

Here are a few from their sweet first look and the following couples portraits:

We continued with some pictures with their closest friends. Seriously, anywhere at this venue is so picture-worthy! Bridesmaids are wearing dresses from Azazie.

Their ceremony was on the front steps of the Creekside Plantation house, officiated by a friend.

After a party at Creekside Plantation’s pavilion by the vineyards, the new husband and wife left with a glow stick send off!

Congratulations to you, Rachel and John! It was an honor to be a part of your beautiful day.

Hill-Wittig Wedding | Yellowhammer Brewing | Huntsville, AL

Cheers to the Wittig’s!

With our baby coming soon after, Ashley and Eric’s October wedding was one of our last of 2018, and we enjoyed every minute of it - well, maybe not the extreme heat while also being extremely pregnant… but everything else! :-)

Speaking of baby, we took a slight break toward the end of pregnancy as we moved into our new house, got ready for baby, HAD baby, and got settled as a family of 4. So, although I was still shooting and editing and sharing, the blog and social media posts took a back seat for a while! I’m so excited to finally catch up the blog.

We met Ashley and her bridesmaids at Elleven Salon in downtown Huntsville. While they finished up getting ready, we started with some detail shots using the rustic brick wall across the street from the salon. The old brick was a neat contrast to Ashley’s modern white dress!

The girls had their hair by Courtney Olsen and makeup by Amy Birchmeier, both wonderful artists at Elleven Salon.

My personal favorite shots from the wedding are Ashley’s bridal portraits, and the shots with her bridesmaids as well, outside the old First National Bank on the square in the heart of downtown Huntsville. I love the clean, regal look of these, but you guys know I’m a sucker for anything simple and white, especially a nice white background!

Take a look! Seriously, how beautiful are these girls?!

We left the bridal party to go catch up with the groom and groomsmen, who were getting ready in the back of the brewery where the beer is actually brewed! There was Yellowhammer Beer stacked up everywhere! It made for a neat backdrop for not only wedding party portraits, but couples portraits as well! (And it saved us all from that Alabama heat).

Their reception was complete with an ultra modern, unique cake by Eileen Phillips and catering by Creative Catering. Of course to accompany the variety of beers available, there was a lot of dancing, including “the worm”, which for guests’ sake, I’ll reserve those photos for the couple only! :-)

We had so much fun with this sweet couple, and I’m so glad I’m finally able to share more images on the blog! Thank you again for having us Ashley and Eric!
